Holiday Disasters
Christmas
is the most important time of the year. It is natural for people to pour over
every detail to make the occasion perfect. However, even the most carefully
laid-out plans can still go array.

Christmas Holiday Disasters |
The most common holiday
disaster is the sudden appearance of unexpected guests. Be it your
mother-in-law or a detested aunt, the presence of an unwanted visitor can
dampen anybody's day. People often get surprised by ex-lovers and estranged
friends ringing their doorbell and dropping by for some small talk. Nothing
ruins a holiday more than having to sit on the table across someone you detest
and pretend to be civil. This can be pretty uncomfortable and drains the fun
out of the holidays.
Accidents
happen more often during Christmas because people are so busy with preparations
that they often get careless. Kitchens erupt in flames because of neglected
meals stuck in the oven and Christmas trees fall because of mischievous tots.
Falling trees, although sometimes funny, can also be disastrous. Not only do
they need plenty of cleaning up, but sometimes people get hurt as well. Having
a tree fall on you also causes scrapes, and ducking out of a falling tree's way
can have its own dangers. Cars also break down more often during Christmas
because people are in such a rush, some do not properly turn off their
automobiles during visits and errands.
A huge
holiday disaster involves cooking mishaps, and nothing ruins a holiday more
than bad cooking. People rush about and neglect the food they prepare because
they have to welcome several guests. This results in burnt food, meals that are
either too bland or too heavily seasoned, all of which are impossible to eat.
Some people, in their hurry, also tend to drop their food, resulting not only
in broken plates and trays, but also a fine meal gone to waste. This is
particularly embarrassing if you are the host, but even more of a disaster if you
are a guest. Most guests, out of politeness, force themselves to eat
badly-cooked foods and pretend to enjoy it.
For
formal gatherings and family reunions, wine is always present. However, people
can get carried away with all the merry-making and one or more of your guests
will always end up drunk. This would not be a huge problem if they did not
behave badly. Several Christmas gatherings get ruined because one inebriated
guest decides to pick a fight, start spilling nasty secrets, or puke all over
the house. If nobody likes a drunken guest, nobody likes a drunken host either.
People hosting Christmas parties and reunions often have too much to drink,
even before their guests arrive because they are nervous and need a drink to
calm down. However, the results are usually the opposite, and a host who makes
a fool of him/herself in front of the guests is no fun at all.
The
only reason these disasters should be avoided is because they take the fun out
of the Christmas holiday. However, trouble can never be avoided. If one of
these disasters happens, just remember to laugh at yourself, shrug off all the
negativity, and enjoy yourself.
